Chris Allen has been singing and performing in shows and concerts from an early age. With a background of training and experience in musical theatre, he now regularly performs jazz classics in a Rat Pack tribute act, and has also performed across the West Midlands in an acoustic covers band. He also received three years of training from classical tenor Joshua Ellicott whilst studying History at the University of York; a valuable experience which he feels has improved both his own technique and his teaching across all genres.
He has been working as a freelance singing teacher for two years, but has been coaching and encouraging young singers for much longer, through his volunteer work with the award-winning Walsall-based youth theatre group Spotlight Youth Productions. He has been an active participant in the West Midlands amateur dramatics scene for almost twenty years, both as a performer and as a musical director (he is currently Musical Director of Little Shop Of Horrors with Followspot Productions, a group he co-founded in 2015). He also workshopped a new musical named Wardrobe, at both the Leicester Curve Theatre and The Old Joint Stock in Birmingham in 2017/18.
Chris believes that singing is all about enjoyment, both for the performer and the audience, and his lessons and teaching style look to reflect this. His laid-back, personable lessons help instruct the student in the fundamentals of good vocal technique, in the performance skills which take a rendition of a song to another level and in simply how to get the most enjoyment and fulfilment out of your voice.
