Our Teachers 

Jayne Davis - Keyboards/Theory 

Jayne has been a teacher, and representative for the London College of Music and Registry of Guitar Tutors examination boards for over 29 years. Jayne’s professional career began performing at local events and private functions either as a soloist or with her drummer. Jayne teaches keyboard and piano at TMS and works as a peripatetic keyboard teacher at Thomas Telford School. As LCM representative, she regularly hosts concerts and charity events bringing talented students from recent examination sessions to perform in the Mayor’s Parlour, Wolverhampton. 
 
Jayne has been Director of TMS since August 2011 and enjoys working with fellow teachers to promote and inspire students to enjoy and progress in their music. 
Adam Threlfall - Guitar/Keyboards/Vocal/Drums 
Adam has been playing guitar for 24 years and teaching for 13 years. He has been a professional musician since 2007, playing in west end musicals, recording studios and touring around. Shows include, Mamma Mia, Flashdance, Jersey Boys, Chess, Jesus Christ Superstar and Just So. Adam also likes to write and record his own songs. 

Mark Bayliss - Vocal/Drama 

Mark graduated as an Actor from the Arden School of Theatre in 2012 with a BA Hons in Musical Theatre. He has also received his ALCM from the London College of Music. 
Theatre Credits: James Waltham (Wind Road Boys), Hansel (Hansel and Gretel). His favourite roles to date are Fred/Petruchio (Kiss Me Kate), Paul (Kiss Me Kate), Nathan (Godspell), Trevor Graydon (Thoroughly Modern Millie), Senator Wingwoah (The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas) and Mr Cladwell (Urinetown). 
Musical Director/Director Credits: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, The Lion King, The Wizard of Oz, All Shook Up, After the Dance and Jesus Christ Superstar. Within the next year Mark has upcoming Musical Director credits including tick tick Boom, Hot Mikado, WW1 Concert, Musical Theatre Concert and Merrily We Roll Along. 
 
Mark has 100% pass rate with his students who take LCM examinations and loves every minute teaching them. Within his lessons he explores the mechanics of the voice and encourages students to understand how to make correct placement in order to produce the best sound quality possible. Leading on from that he explores the character within the song/show, pulling apart the whole story of the song in order to get the best character performance as well as a good vocal performance to accompany. 

Anne Clark - Piano 

Anne is one of our piano teachers. She graduated in 1974 from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Shirley Blakey and Professor Walter Joysz and has been teaching ever since. In 2011 Anne became a freelance accompanist within the Vocal and Operatic Department at Birmingham Conservatoire. Regularly accompanying musicians from around the county for graded music exams and concerts. Anne is also Musical Director of the Shifnal and District Male Choir. 
 
Now busier than ever, Anne teaches students of all ages and levels. 

Stephen Rhodes - Brass 

Stephen has been working at Telford Music School since 2014, teaching all of the brass family, specialising in Trombone. After graduating from the London College of Music, he is quickly establishing himself as a professional freelance trombone player in the Midlands. Stephen is a very active freelance musician playing all over the country and teaching in many schools in the Midlands. He teaches people who are complete beginners to post diploma standard. 

Julie Williams - Keyboards/Theory 

Julie teaches keyboard and beginner piano at Telford Music School. She began her musical career learning on full organ and gained both Grade 8 and leisure play examinations with the London College of Music. From there Julie moved onto keyboard and began taking exams from Grade 5, eventually achieving Grade 8 and two diplomas (DipLCM in performance and ALCM TD in teaching). Julie has also reached Grade 4 in singing and she’s working towards gaining more qualifications in vocal studies in the near future. 

Marion Holland - Woodwind/Strings/Theory/Piano 

Marion was born in London and studied at Trinity College. Principally an oboist, she has over 35 years experience of music teaching and has spent the majority of her career tutoring a variety of instruments, performing with orchestras and chamber groups, and playing piano accompaniment for examinations. As a composer she has published several of her own pieces too, and enjoys writing music for teaching and for friendly ensembles. Being a multi-instrumentalist she teaches Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Recorders, Violin, Viola, Piano and Music Theory. 
Marion likes to perform with regional orchestras and ensembles, loving serious Chamber Music most of all, and playing principally Oboe, Cor Anglais and Viola at local events. 

Andrew Gould - Violin 

Andrew graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2015 with a Bmus (hons) in Music Performance. He is a Violin teacher and part of a string quartet and is working towards professional orchestral playing, looking for a career comprised of teaching orchestral, chamber and other ensemble playing. 

Steve Terry - Drum Kit 

Steve is our drum kit teacher and he has been involved in music and entertainment for over 20 years. He runs Telford Disco Solutions (professional DJ and disco entertainment) and also has experience in music production. Steve has also provided PA and lighting for a variety of events (including LCM presentations at The Mayor’s Parlour in Wolverhampton). 

Roy Johnson - Saxophone 

Roy is a professional saxophonist and as well as teaching our pupils, he also plays in a number of bands including 'Shrewsbury Big Band', 'Brian Jones Big Band', the 'Westcoastin' Jazz Ensemble' and several other Jazz groups. He studied Saxophone under Professor P. Dixon, at Kneller Hall Royal Military School of Music and then went on to study as a bandmaster. 
 
As part of the Army Band, Roy played all over Europe and at prestigious events in England including the changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace and Princess Anne's wedding. 
 
His career in music has taken him to some amazing places and in more recent years he has focused on teaching at numerous private schools in and around Shropshire. 

Julie Lester-Hand - Keyboards/Theory 

Julie teaches keyboard and music theory at Telford Music School. She passed all her exams with the London College of Music and has 27 years experience in teaching both adults and children at varying levels as well as people with disabilities. 
 
Julie has two children and as well as her passion for music, she also loves animals, keeping fit and travelling (especially around South East Asia). 
 
Her love for animals, in particular, elephants is something her beginner pupils know all too well when she teaches them her rhyme for remembering the letter names on the treble stave - Elephants Got Big Dirty Feet! 

David Dunn - Guitar/Ukulele/Bass/Banjo/Mandolin 

David has been teaching Guitar for seven years. David caters for a large variety for styles from Classical to Hard rock. His clientele range from 5 to 85 years and all abilities are catered for! 
 
David encourages his students to achieve grades 1 - 8 with the Rock School and The Registry of Guitar Tutors. 
 
David is currently training to be a Primary Teacher on a P.G.C.E course. 

Samuel Deakin - Vocal/Piano 

Sam studied Music at The University of Huddersfield, specialising in Classical Singing and Performance gaining a CertHE Diploma in Music. As well as teaching at Telford Music School Sam also teaches singing at Thomas Telford School, Tettenhall College and Elmhurst School for Dance. As well as teaching, Sam directs various choirs and musical ensembles alongside performing on stage himself, recent roles include: Bert Healy (Annie), Oswald (Gypsy Love) Johann (Goodnight Vienna). Sam is the Musical Director for Bilston Youth Company, currently rehearsing for a production of Les Miserables. 
 

Emily Halford - Vocal/Drama 

After completing her diploma in musical theatre, Emily now enjoys passing on her skills to upcoming performers. 
As well as teaching at Telford Music School Emily also works at Wombourne School of Music, Oldbury Academy and Thorns Community College. 
Emily enjoys performing in and around Wolverhampton. She has been a member of Bilston Operatic Company for 6 years and over that time she has played Ermengarde in 'Hello Dolly', Lilly in 'Annie' and a Pirate in 'Peter Pan'. 
 

TMS Cover Teachers  

Jenny Wood - Clarinet/Saxophone/Piano 

Jenny has been teaching Piano, Clarinet and Saxophone at Telford Music School since 2013, entering students for examinations with both ABRSM and LCM examination boards, achieving excellent results. 
 
Jenny's principal instrument is clarinet and has achieved Grade 8 with ABRSM. She is currently studying Grade 8 piano and regularly performs on Alto Saxophone as part of a Jazz Band. 

John-Luke Harris - Brass 

John-Luke has been working at Telford Music School since 2012, teaching all instruments in the brass family including the trombone, however he specialises in trumpet and cornet. Established as a professional freelance trumpet/cornet player in the Midlands, John is a member of one of Britain's leading brass bands, the Jackfield (Elcock Reisen) Band, and for the past three years, playing as Repiano cornet and more recently as Assistant Principal. John teaches students ranging from beginner to grade eight. 

Holly Adams - Vocal 

Holly has been teaching musical theatre, classical, pop vocals and drama at Telford Music School for three years and is currently in her third year at the University of Worcester studying drama and performance. After completing musical theatre, individual acting and classical singing exams up to Grade 8, Holly went on to achieve an ALCM diploma from the London College of Music. 
 
Holly’s pupils have achieved extremely high results in musical theatre exams with the London College of Music and have been awarded prizes at Dudley Festival of Music and Drama. Holly is hoping to continue her studies at the University of Worcester and complete a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in English and drama during 2014-15. 
Kitty Greenwood - Fiddle/Piano 
 
Kitty is a professional fiddle and concertina player with over 30 years of teaching experience. After graduating in music and gaining her Post Graduate Teaching Certificate she settled in Mid-Wales. Rapidly establishing herself as one of the most innovative musicians in the area she combined teaching and performing with bringing up a family (all musicians!). She also established a number of highly successful community music projects catering for all ages, from babies to great-grandparents.
